My name is Joel Smith. I have been interested in computers my entire life, especially in the practical aspects of using and maintaining a computer. I have a working knowledge of application design and web design, but my preferred area of work is in network set-up and maintenance, corporate information technology, and systems administration.
I am currently working for James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA as a Windows Systems Administrator. My team focuses on providing services such as server turn up, backup management, and patch management to support the university’s technology needs. We also directly manage some applications, such as directory services, file shares, and a subset of collaboration tools. I am primarily responsible for managing Microsoft Exchange and Skype for business, as well as providing back-end support for Sharepoint.
