I have had several instances where MySQL fails to start after a power failure or other improper shutdown.
This has only happen on FreePBX servers for me, but those are really the only systems I have with MySQL that aren’t in a controlled environment and I assume this can happen in other situations too. (more…)
A while back I found a guide to setting up delayed paging in FreePBX at http://www.freepbx.org/forum/freepbx/tips-and-tricks/delayed-paging-0. This worked well except that if two people dialed the call at the same time, they would record to the same file and interrupt each other when the page runs. The modifications below fix this problem. The latest version of VMWare Converter doesn’t play nice with newer versions of Ubuntu. It will fail at 99% with this very informative error message:

A few places on Technet mention that the Exchange 2010 SP3 installer can take a very long time to finish the Languages step if Real Time Protection is enabled in Forefront, but I don’t see anybody mentioning that this also applies to Security Essentials. Obvious when you think about it Read more
Last Friday I upgraded from the Windows 8 Release Preview to the final version. I had been using the preview for a good while, so there weren’t many unexpected problems, but one of the ones I did have was pretty significant. (more…)
After updating to Windows 8 and installing the 606 series nVidia drivers on Dell’s website, I found that using my Targus SuperSpeed docking station the external screens would not work and the laptop screen would “flicker” as if the others were rapidly disconnecting and reconnecting. (more…)
